Sept 19 – Two second-year students from the architecture program at the Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment, Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM), Nur Sabrina Ilyana Binti Sidek and Nur Nasuha Binti Bakhari have been selected to participate in the outbound mobility program to the Prefectural University of Hiroshima (PUH) Summer School 2024. The program will take place from August 20 to 26, 2024, and offers a week-long learning and cultural experience in Hiroshima, Japan.
One of the participants, Nur Sabrina Ilyana, expressed that the program provides a unique opportunity to explore the culture and education system at PUH through various activities planned throughout the program. Among the exciting activities are attending lectures at the Hiroshima Campus on Regional Culture, Business Administration, Health Sciences, and Informatics, as well as participating in traditional experiences like the Japanese tea ceremony and visiting a Karate club.
Nur Nasuha added, “We were also given the opportunity to deepen our knowledge in agriculture through learning about cellular plant agriculture at the Shobara Campus. At the Mihara Campus, we engaged in interactive learning activities including physical therapy, nursing, and special education, such as painting Japanese fans and using simulation tools.”
In addition to learning activities, participants also had the chance to experience Japanese culture firsthand through visits to historical sites such as Miyajima and the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum. These visits provided students with a deeper understanding of Japan’s history and culture, particularly regarding the impact of the atomic bombing in Hiroshima.
On the final day of the program, each group was asked to present what they had learned throughout the program in the form of a PowerPoint presentation. Nur Sabrina and Nur Nasuha successfully presented their learning outcomes, showcasing a profound and comprehensive experience. Their success is a result of their dedication and commitment to participating in every activity and interacting with international students.
USIM students’ involvement in this program received financial support from the Center for Waqf and Zakat and the USIM Internationalization Fund. This initiative aims to strengthen mobility programs abroad, providing students with opportunities to enrich their knowledge and build international networks.
Nur Sabrina and Nur Nasuha hope to share their experiences and knowledge gained at PUH with the USIM community. They also plan to apply what they have learned in future programs at USIM, aiming to create a more inclusive and globally-minded learning environment.
