20 September 2023 – The Asean Classroom 2023 program, a collaboration between Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) and Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Cawangan Melaka Kampus Bandaraya Melaka, has successfully united 18 participants from Malaysia and Indonesia for a 6-day summer school. This initiative promotes legal knowledge exchange and cultural understanding, benefiting academic endeavors and fostering stronger international relationships.
The Asean Classroom 2023 program included 18 participants, predominantly from Indonesia, with a smaller local contingent. The program celebrated the diversity and potential of young individuals in Southeast Asia, emphasizing their unique qualities and the importance of preparing them for the challenges of a globalized world.
Through these programs, these sessions enabled students from both countries to gain insights into and compare the legal systems of Malaysia and Indonesia, expanding their perspectives on law and justice in Southeast Asia.
Participants had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich history and culture of Malaysia by visiting landmarks such as the Prison Museum, Rumah Penghulu Abu Seman, KLCC, and more, providing invaluable field experience. Additionally, the program fostered cross-cultural interactions, allowing participants from diverse backgrounds to develop respect and understanding of cultural differences—a vital skill in our increasingly globalized world. Cultural exchange activities, featuring guest speakers, facilitated this process. Furthermore, the program encouraged students to exchange knowledge and ideas about their legal systems. Discussions encompassed topics such as the application of Sharia values, current legal issues, and strategies for enhancing the legal systems in their respective countries.
The Asean Classroom 2023 program stands as a testament to international cooperation and the dedication to promoting mutual understanding among young individuals in Southeast Asia. This initiative has not only expanded participants’ horizons but has also provided a platform for enhancing both academic and cultural exchange.
With 15 participants from Indonesia and local students collaborating, the program has presented an excellent opportunity for students to explore and gain a deeper appreciation for the diverse legal, cultural, and historical landscapes of the region. It is clear that initiatives like Asean Classroom 2023 play a crucial role in preparing the next generation of leaders with a global perspective.
