5 May – Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) recently witnessed the successful culmination of a collaborative effort between USIM ‘Alamiyyah and the Faculty of Major Language Studies: a two-week English Language Immersion Camp designed to enrich the language skills and cultural awareness of high school students from Thailand, with the youngest participant is 10-year-old, Mursi, among the attendees.

Jointly organized by USIM ‘Alamiyyah and the Faculty of Major Language Studies, the English Language Immersion Camp ran from April 21 to May 5, 2024, and welcomed a group of bright and enthusiastic students eager to immerse themselves in English language learning and cross-cultural experiences.

Under the guidance of experienced instructors and facilitators from both USIM ‘Alamiyyah and the Faculty of Major Language Studies, participants engaged in an intensive language learning program aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The curriculum, meticulously crafted to suit the participants’ language proficiency levels, emphasized interactive learning activities and practical language application.

In addition to classroom sessions, the Camp offered participants a plethora of enriching experiences, including outdoor activities, language games, sports and cultural workshops. These activities, designed to promote teamwork and cultural exchange, fostered bonds of friendship and understanding among the participants.

As a highlight of the program, students embarked on captivating field trips to iconic Malaysian destinations, including Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya. These excursions, complemented by cultural insights provided by local guides, provided students with a deeper understanding of Malaysian heritage and traditions.

The collaborative spirit extended to the provision of local buddies, who accompanied the participants throughout their journey, offering guidance and support while facilitating meaningful interactions with the local community. This personalized approach contributed to the overall warmth and hospitality experienced by the participants during their stay.

At the conclusion of the English Camp, all 18 participants were presented with certificates of participation as a testament to their dedication and achievements throughout the program. These certificates, jointly issued by USIM ‘Alamiyyah and the Faculty of Major Language Studies, symbolize the successful culmination of a transformative learning experience.

During the closing ceremony, the Dean of the Faculty of Major Language Studies, Assoc Prof Dr Zainur Rijal Abdul Razak expressed their satisfaction with the outcomes of the English Camp. He underscored the importance of such joint initiatives in promoting language education and fostering cross-cultural understanding among youth.

The joint English Camp organized by USIM ‘Alamiyyah and the Faculty of Major Language Studies highlights USIM’s dedication to language education and global citizenship. We look forward to conducting more programs in the future to expand our network and share knowledge globally for the benefit of our youth.
