THE MALAY LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY CERTIFICATION TEST FOR NON-MALAYSIANS

 OF UNIVERSITI SAINS ISLAM MALAYSIA (USIM)

 

The Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia has endorsed the implementation of the Malay Language Proficiency Test for Non-Malaysians. This test is officially known as SIJIL KECEKAPAN BAHASA MELAYU BAGI WARGANEGARA ASING (SKBMW).

This  test must be taken by all international students and staff who have been in Malaysia for at least one (1) year.

The test is governed by Majlis Peperiksaan Malaysia (MPM) a.k.a Malaysian Examinations Council.

The aims

  • To ensure that non-Malaysians could use the Malay Language for various purposes. (including those from Brunei, Indonesia, Singapore).
  • To enhance the status of the Malay Language internationally.

Date of  Test

The SKBMW test is conducted annually.

The Registration Process

In line with the above-mentioned  test, International Students and Staff, who fulfill the above requirement can register their intention to sit for the SKBMW test at

http://webmpm1.mpm.edu.my/skbmw starting from 4 May 2016 to 30 June 2016. Please get a Special PIN (Personal Identification Number) from Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) by stating your intention to sit for the exam via the counter and pay the Test Fees RM200. 
Please notify USIM ‘Alamiyyah regarding your registration status in order for us to facilitate the examination process.

Alternatively you may come to USIM ‘Alamiyyah to register through USIM. Please make sure you have paid RM200 for the test fees at Bursary Office and bring the original copy of the receipt together during the registration at USIM ‘Alamiyyah.

The Test Objectives

  • The test measures writing, reading, listening and speaking skills of the candidates.

Learning Kit

Registered Candidates will receive a Learning Kit from Malaysian Examinations Council (www.mpm.edu.my). For first time registration, a candidate must purchase the Learning KIT (containing the General Regulation, Test Syllabus, Scale Efficiency, Exam Format and Question example, the Guide Answering test SKBMW, and CD Recording Listening Skills Test).

Test Details

 Candidates are required to sit for all four components for the first test taken.

Candidates are allowed to repeat any component in order to improve their results. Repeating candidates are required to pay a basic fee of RM60.00 and RM30.00 for every skill to be tested for each component.

Items to be provided by the candidate

  • The candidate must answer essay questions, using black or blue ballpen,
  • Candidates should use 2B pencil to answer multiple choice questions.
  • Candidates must bring a 2B pencil, eraser, and other requirements appropriate during the test.

 

Test Postponement

Candidates who wish to postpone the test must obtain permission from Malaysian Examinations Council writing with acceptable reason and cause within 30 days prior to the test.

Test Result

The results of the Malay Language proficiency Certification Test (SKBMW)

Test Results will be announced via the SKBMW MPM portal. Certificates will be issued to the candidate after the results were announced.

FAQ

  • Which body govern the test?

The Test is governed by Malaysian Examinations Council (www.mpm.edu.my)

  •  What is the purpose of the test?

The test is 1) to ensure that non-Malaysians could use the Malay Language for various purposes and 2) to enhance the status of the Malay Language internationally.

  • This SKBMW Test, is it only in USIM?

SKBMW is not a USIM’s internal test, it is a national level test just like MALAYSIAN UNIVERSITY ENGLISH TEST (MUET

  •  Does it a graduation requirement?

No. It does not affect your graduation.

  •  If I fail the test, does it affect my graduation?

At the moment, no.

  • I cannot sit the test this year.

You may take the next year test.

  • I already take various Malay Language courses before this.

  • I never learn Malay language before. USIM should conduct a special training for us

Regardless you have underwent formal training or not related to Malay Language, the test aims to measure the level of your Malay Language proficiency after being in Malaysia for more than one year. We may conduct such training in the future.
