USIM PHD PROGRAMME FOR IIUC UNDER SPECIAL SCHEME
Background of the Agreement
Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between the International Islamic University Chittagong (IIUC) and the Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) for collaboration on the offer of USIM PhD program for students located in Bangladesh was officially signed on 6 April 2014 in Chittagong.
Its prime objective is to provide a most convenient opportunity for the PhD teachers of IIUC and other Private Universities in Bangladesh to upgrade their academic qualifications with credible and high quality PhD degrees at affordable cost and staying at their jobs and workplaces.
Main Features of the Scheme
a) It is a 3-year (6-semester) full-time regular PhD Program at Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia.
b) A student under the scheme will have to pay to USIM a total of RM 25,754 (BDT 6,50,000 app.) as tuition fee and other charges during 3 years and an amount of RM 5,600 to RM 7,700 (BDT 140,000 to 192,500) during admission.
c) A student will have to stay for a minimum period of 3 months in the USIM during the 3-year duration of PhD study for completion of admission, finalization of research proposal and defending PhD thesis at the end. Staying in Malaysia may cost RM 1,000 to RM 1,200 (BDT 25,000 to 30,000) per month per person for food and accommodation excluding airfare. Return airfare may cost BDT 25,000 to 40,000 per trip per person.
d) A student will have to complete two courses namely Research Methodology, and Data Analysis under the GOAL (Global Open Access Learning) system of USIM. Students who completed the course(s) at tertiary level may get exemption from the course(s) through application after admission to the PhD program.
e) Student has the option to pursue his/her PhD research staying in Bangladesh under this Special Scheme.
f) Candidates having suitable Master degree or its equivalent with good grade from recognized Universities or Institutes are eligible to apply.
Students under the scheme are required to apply for admission through the Coordinator of the Program in Bangladesh. They are to make all communications with USIM through the Coordinator.
